Kiawah Island discovers Jane Bess Pottery Sea Life Ornaments
The Heron Park Nature Center at Kiawah Island Golf Resort is my latest wholesale account for my sea life ornaments. While taking a tour of the SC Aquarium, the manager at the Heron Park Nature Center spotted my handmade pottery sea life ornaments. One thing lead to another, and I was receiving my first order for Sea Turtles, Crabs, Seahorses and Starfish. The staff of the Heron Park Nature Center have been wonderful to work with, and I look forward to the day when I can hand deliver my pottery so I can see the beautiful beaches of Kiawah Island that I grew up with. The South Carolina coastline continues to be a source of inspiration for me.
S.C. Aquarium now features Jane Bess Pottery
In December 2009 I received a phone call from the buyer for the South Carolina Aquarium located in historic downtown Charleston. She stated that my pottery work had been on "her radar." Now my adorable sea life ornaments can now be purchased at the S.C. Aquarium. You will find Sea Turtles, Crabs, and Seahorses for sale at their beautiful gift shop. I make each ornament by hand in my Edgefield, SC studio using a stoneware clay, and they are signed and dated. You can check out the aquarium website here. http://scaquarium.org/

Sea Turtle Ornaments: Handmade pottery stoneware Sea Turtles are individually made by myself in my Edgefield, South Carolina studio. Each adorable sea turtle has an embossed pattern that I rub into the clay by hand and then each is glazed by hand after the initial bisque firing process. And, as always I use several glazes to create beautifully layered effects. Each ornament is unique and original with subtle variations in pattern and color...just like a real Sea Turtle!
